چکیده

Introduction Biomass energy has received much attention in recent years. We now use about one third of the U.S. corn crop for biofuels. More recently, attention has focused on cellulosic resources—dedicated energy crops like switchgrass, miscanthus, and corn stover. Now the question has been raised concerning the economics of collecting just the corn cobs for energy instead of the stover. This publication provides information on the economics of corn cob harvest. What are the associated, additional costs of harvesting cobs? Will harvesting cobs generate extra revenue for the farming operation? To help answer the last question, we estimate the per ton payment farmers need to receive in order to take on the additional task of harvesting cobs during the corn harvest.

PURDUE EXTENSION RE-7-W Fueling and Feeding America Through Renewable Resources RenewableEnergy Synergies Between Cover Crops and Corn Stover Removal

Introduction In 2007 the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) established that by 2022, 36 billion gallons of biofuel are to come from renewable fuel sources. More specifically, the mandate requires the production of cellulosic biofuels to increase to 16 billion gallons ethanol equivalent annually by 2022 (Energy Independence and Security Act, 2007). Cellulosic biofuels are derived from ...

A Techno-Economic Study of an Entirely Renewable Energy-Based Power Supply for North America for 2030 Conditions

In this study power generation and demand are matched through a least-cost mix of renewable energy (RE) resources and storage technologies for North America by 2030. The study is performed using an hourly resolved model based on a linear optimization algorithm. The geographical, technical and economic potentials of different forms of RE resources enable the option of building a super grid betwe...

A hybrid renewable energy system for a North American off-grid community

Canada has many isolated communities that are not connected to the electrical grid. Most of these communities meet their electricity demand through stand-alone diesel generators. Diesel generators have economic and environmental concerns that can be minimized by using hybrid renewable energy technologies. This study aims to assess the implementation of a hybrid energy system for an off-grid com...

Assessing the Mitigation of Environmental Impacts of Using Renewable Resources in Rural Areas (Case Study: Nejobaran Village-Kermanshah- Iran)

This paper evaluates the changes in the ecological footprint index in rural areas by applying the replacement of renewable energy sources to fossil fuels. Population growth, and consequently increased use of fossil fuels, has resulted in various environmental degradation including climate change, global warming, and melting of polar ice. Detailed scientific analysis show that the buildings cons...
